This DVD collection includes three classic WWII movies:
The Guns of Navaron, From Here to Eternity, and The Bridge on the River
Kwai
The Bridge on the River Kwai, starring William Holden, Jack Hawkins,
Alec Guinness, Sessue Hayakawa, and James Donald tells the story of
British WWII prisoners of war who are given the task, by their Japanese
captors, of building a railway bridge in a harsh Asian jungle. Led by Col
Nicholson, a stereotypical British officer, the prisoners score a moral
victory over the Japanese by not only building the bridge, but running the
whole show.
The Guns of Navaron, starring Gregory Peck, David Niven, Anthony
Quinn, Stanley Baker, and Anthony Quayle depicts the events surrounding
an evacuation of endangered British troops when two powerful German
guns control the seas past the Greek island of Navarone. Air attack is
useless so a team of six Allied and Greek soldiers is put ashore to meet
up with partisans to try and dynamite the guns.
From Here to Eternity, starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift,
Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, and Frank Sinatra is the story of Robert E.
Lee Prewitt who after requesting a transfer winds up at Schofield in Hawaii.
His new captain, Dana Holmes, has heard of his boxing prowess and is
keen to get him to represent the company. However, 'Prew' is adamant
that he doesn't box anymore, so Captain Holmes gets his subordinates to
make his life a living hell. Unbeknownst to anyone, the Japanese bombing
of Pearl Harbor looms in the distance.
