| During World War II, nickel and copper were vital for America's war effort. As a result, the U.S. Mint struck Jefferson Nickels in .350 Fine Silver from 1942-1945 (the only silver Nickels in history), as well as Lincoln Pennies in steel in 1943 (the only steel coin in history). In addition to these emergency coins, this collection includes the Mercury Dime, Washington Quarter, and Walking Liberty Half Dollar that were struck during the war years in .900 Fine Silver. The World War II Coins & Stamps collection is completed with official U.S. stamps that were issued in the war years to support America's war effort. The stamps are in original mint condition. |
